Overview

For nearly 2,000 years, the Jewish people has yearned to return to its historic homeland. The Zionist movement sought to make that dream a reality.

Entrusted with the historic responsibility for the "ingathering of the Jewish people", JAFI has been responsible for organizing aliyah from all over the world. Nearly 2.8 million olim have arrived in Israel since 1948 - from east and west, from rich countries and from poor. Some fled persecution and sought refuge, others left comfortable homes in order to make their mark in the Jewish state. All have contributed to the social, economic and political fabric of Israel.

JAFI operates a worldwide network of shlichim (emissaries) and information centers to advise and assist potential olim. In Israel, it implements a range of social, educational and vocational projects in order to ease the integration of olim, including a countrywide network of absorption centers, student hostels, ulpanim, study programs for young people, information centers and retraining programs.
