Upcoming Events for the Week of 8-14 September Open to

Monday, 9 September. Kibbutz Palmachim. An ulpan
("intensive Hebrew language course) will be initiated in Kibbutz
Palmachim to accommodate 40 new immigrants.

Tuesday, 10 September, 08:00, Jerusalem. Prime Minister
Ariel Sharon and Jewish Agency Chairman will visit a Jerusalem kindergarten
where they will express their appreciation to World Jewry for their
contribution of NIS 100 million for the security of Israeli schoolchildren
during the 2002-03 school year. Details will be given in an announcement to
be issued on 9 September.

Tuesday-Wednesday, 9-11 September. Jerusalem,
15:00-20:00. Symposia will be devoted to Diaspora Jewish Zionist Education
in the context of a course organized on the training of human resources.
Academic specialists, pedagogues, medical and legal experts will present
papers.
Events Commemorating the September 11th
Terror Attack in the USA

Tuesday, 10 September, Association of American and
Canadians in Israel-JNF Memorial Forest, off Shaar Hagai Junction. Annual
Memorial Ceremony for North Americans who fell in the line of duty in the
security forces of the State of Israel and for North American victims of
hostilities and terror. This year, 25 names will be added. Col. Miri Eisen, of
the IDF Intelligence Corps, will deliver an oration. This ceremony will take on
added significance because of the proximity to the anniversary of the September
11th attack and to the War against Terror, which is being waged in its wake.
Buses will depart at 15:00 from the AACI offices, 11 Pinsker St., Jerusalem.

Wednesday, 11 September, 14:00 at the Renaissance Hotel,
Jerusalem. The second
Conference of Aloh Na'Aleh, an association of professionals, Rabbis
and laypeople who have successfully made Aliyah and are dedicated to
motivating North American Jews to consider Aliyah as a real option.
The conference will begin with a moment of silence and memorial for
those who perished in the September 11th attack.

Wednesday, 11 September, Jerusalem, Washington, New York,
Atlanta 16:30 (Israeli
time). United Jewish Communities of North America videoconference,
commemorating the anniversary September 11th attack.
Anticipated Aliyah Statistics
-
During the coming week 398 immigrants are expected to
arrive in
Israel. Of these, 147 are from Russia, 67 are from the Central Asian
Republics of the Former Soviet Union and the Southern Caucasus, 51 are
from Argentina, 44 are from Ethiopia, 26 are from Ukraine, 22 are from
France, and the rest are from the USA, the UK, India, Colombia and
Mexico.

During the course of the coming week 197 students in Jewish
Agency educational programs such as the Sela (university preparatory)
program and the Na'Aleh (high school) program are expected to arrive
in Israel.
Milestones in the History of Zionism

10 September 1952. The Retribution Agreement was signed
with West
Germany. According to terms of the agreement, West Germany paid DM 3
billion to Israel and DM 450 million to the Claims Commission.

12 September 1917. Upon Jabotinsky's initiative, the Royal
Fusiliers battalions were founded in the context of the Jewish Legion.
